In addition to drums, electric guitar, electric bass and keyboard, students can also try out world music instruments: Bağlama, Oud, Kanun and Darbuka. "By collaborating with BASF in the 'Pop macht Schule' project, we can offer students in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region a special opportunity to engage creatively with pop music," says Prof. Udo Dahmen, artistic director and managing director of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg.The competition is open to secondary schools, vocational schools, comprehensive schools, community schools, special needs schools and vocational schools from the seventh grade upwards in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The students form bands, write lyrics, develop their own songs or become band managers. There are no costs for the schools. The aim of the project, which was initiated together with BASF SE, is to sharpen the young people's sense of a creative approach to pop music at an early age. Making music together also promotes the social skills of the participants. At the big final concert on May 5, 2023, at BASF's Feierabendhaus, all participating students will experience what it feels like to breathe stage air in front of a large audience. As a musical highlight of the final concert, one of the Pop Academy's graduates who is known throughout Germany will also perform.Online application: www.popakademie.de/projekte/popmachtschuleThe project was awarded the Baden-Württemberg State Teaching Prize in 2009.
