Finding and Using Media

The Popakademie’s media library - the Mediathek - is a thematically organised reference library that reflects the Academy’s role as a competence centre for popular music and music business. In the last several years, we have gathered plenty of treasures - from books and periodicals, to sound recordings and films. Our archives include relevant reference materials, prominent industry magazines, sound recordings and basic works, as well as works from an extensive reference manual for current courses.

Borrowing Media

It is possible to study in the Media Library as well as in the Reading Room on the 3rd floor. Since the Media Library is a reference library, books may only be borrowed overnight or on Fridays and returned the next workday. If there are multiple editions of a book, it can be borrowed for one week. If a medium is required for a longer period of time for thesis research, please submit an application to the degree programme manager of your respective department.

National Licenses

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg has access to certain electronic media such as periodicals and databases, thanks to the funding programme “Interregional Library Services and National Licences” of the German Research Foundation (DFG). These services are activated through DBIS and EZB and are made possible by the following institutions:
  • Bavarian State Library
  • Lower Saxony State and University Library
  • Technical Information Library
  • Leibniz Information Centre for Economics
  • DFG National Licences
