World Music

Bachelor of Arts

The World Music programme covers the main areas of Turkish, Arabic and West African music and its connection to popular music both in the countries of origin as well as here in Germany.

The artistic idea, its implementation and credibility are at the core of the studies. The programme is open to creative and talented instrumentalists, composers, ensemble directors and instrumental teachers.

The programme welcomes all kinds of World Music projects: not only traditional, but also in connection with fusion, jazz, popular music, western art music, etc.

Degree: Bachelor of Arts
Duration: 6 semesters, 180 ECTS
Instruction language: German (minimum level required: C1)
Mandatory internship: 12 weeks in the 5th semester
Application deadline: 30 April
Entrance exam: June 2024
Start: winter semester

Tuition fees:
The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is a state higher education institution of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Accordingly, no tuition fees are payable for first degree studies at the Popakademie.
Since the winter semester 2017/18, the state of Baden-Württemberg has been charging tuition fees for all state universities for certain international students and for second degree studies.

Requirements for acceptance:
  • general or subject-specific university entrance qualification; additional exam is possible for applicants without this qualification
  • practical experience: band, live performances, studio sessions, production
