The 4th season of Popakademie Sessions celebrates musical diversity

06. December 2021

Last Monday, the new season of the Popakademie Sessions celebrated its kick-off. The video productions of the young musicians will be published until January 24.

With influences from punk rock, pop and rap, the three newcomers of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg Nikra, Myle and Nora OG once again represent the musical diversity of the academy in the fourth edition of the Livesessions.

Launched in 2018, the Popakademie Sessions format gives artists:inside the Pop Music Design and Music Business degree programs a first stage for their musical work and promotes their creative development. With a total of 183,000 views, the sessions have managed to establish themselves as a live format for the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg within two years with the help of YouTube's professional expertise and financial support, as well as integrating new marketing opportunities on the platform.

"Every year, new musicians:inside and creative minds come out of the Popakademie, taking the music business by storm. I'm looking forward to rediscovering music through the new sessions and helping the next generation of talent reach new fans," says Kiki Ganzemüller of EMEA Music Partnerships Google Germany.

Velvont, a content strategy agency in Berlin that advises channels for artists such as AnnenMayKantereit and Colors, among others, are also back as supporters in 2021. Dominik Thumfart, himself a graduate of the Popakademie's Music & Creative Industries master's program and Managing Director at Velvont acts as project manager for the sessions. "Especially with a hands-on project like this, it's great to see how much dedication and good ideas the people involved are working in and on all areas. The Popakademie Sessions have reached a professional level and give artists:inside a platform to share their creativity with the world," says Dominik Thumfart from Velvont.

In the first session video of the new season of Nikra angry punk rock meets the generation Fridays for Future - their music becomes a statement of a movement that stands up for its values and takes to the streets for its future.

One could call Myle the possible pop discovery of the year. With his soulful voice, warm guitar sounds and catchy choruses, he has everything it takes for a stellar pop career.

In a rap cosmos shaped by male stereotypes, Nora OG makes herself heard for social problems with her music. Whether it's sexism, discrimination or gender justice, she uses her voice to give space to the issues that need to be heard in order to change something and initiate overall social change.

The fourth edition of the Sessions was conceived and produced as part of the Projektwerkstatt by Popakademie students in the Music and Creative Industries master's program Alice Otto, Jasmin Laich, Michael Semmelmann, Luis Schiebsdat and Thorsten Stricker.

In previous editions of the sessions, musicians such as Lucy Dye, Engin, Trille or Joshua Harfst were among the participants.
