Statement Popakademie Baden-Württemberg on DSDS

22. January 2021

The programme "Deutschland sucht den Superstar" on the TV channel RTL features a candidate in episode four on 16 January 2021 who is allegedly studying at the "Popakademie". This claim is picked up by FOCUS Online in an article. We assume that there is a mix-up here.

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg attaches importance to establishing that the candidate is not a student of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg. All applicants go through an admission procedure, which includes both practical and theoretical examinations. Moreover, as a state-run higher education institution, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg does not charge monthly fees, as the DSDS candidate in question said.

Since 2003, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg has been the only state higher education institution in Germany to offer accredited degree programmes in the fields of popular music and music and creative industries. The quality of the teaching is guaranteed and evaluated at all times. The entire team at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg provides intensive support for students from all disciplines. Numerous successful careers of music and creative professionals have been founded here. In addition, as a centre of excellence, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg realises numerous projects in a regional, national and international context.
