Popakademie students live on stage at the Sunday Beats 2023

13. April 2023

For the fifth year in a row, students of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg are playing live on stage in Herzogenriedpark Mannheim. As part of the Sunday Beats 2023 concert series, five Popakademie bands will perform on various Sundays from 3 p.m. onwards in the concert shell in Herzogenriedpark.

Percusiano Fusion will kick things off on 21st May 2023. The word "Percusiano" not only describes the two words percussion & piano, but also reflects the interplay & joy of interpretation between Max Gerwien & Ilja Ruf. The duo promises an eclectic programme of different musical styles, emotionally & creatively performed with numerous percussion instruments from different continents and piano.

The concert series continues on 18 June with the band LUZIFA. LUZIFA does away with romanticism and takes a stance as a strong, young woman. Her lyrics are reflective, passionate and critical. At the same time, LUZIFA also dares to think ahead musically. Because the combination of modern hip hop and guitar-heavy rock is just as underrepresented in the German music landscape as women are in the charts.

On the 23rd of July, the artist Aron Pinter will be on stage in the concert shell in Herzogenriedpark. His music not only stands for virtuoso singing embedded in a fresh sound concept, but also embodies the modern masculinity of our time, which can be found in his song lyrics as well as in his appearance.

Sunday Beats with the band Ember Tales is the name of the festival on 20 August. The musicians combine the spirit of the 60s and 70s folk-rock scene with modern sound to create a unique musical experience. Lead singer Louisa speaks about personal and political topics in her lyrics. With electric guitars, acoustic folk elements, driving synthesizers and an energetic drums and bass section, a feeling between enthusiasm and fragility is created.

Uyen Nhi Le aka UNI closes the concert series for this year on 24 September. She possesses a captivating voice with many faces. With her Asian-inspired pop, UNI brings a breath of fresh air to the German music scene.
UNI's genre-crossing musical style, reminiscent of a mixture of RnB, soul and hip-hop, has many surprises in store for its audience.

Admission to the concerts is free in each case, park admission to Herzogenriedpark is €3.50, for students €2.50.

Sunday Beats has been the joint concert series of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and Stadtpark Mannheim gGmbH since 2019. The concert series was initiated by the Popakademie's own artist agency KLINKT, which has been helping solo musicians, bands and producers at the Popakademie to stage live events or music marketing projects since 2007. The artist and marketing agency is thus an interface between the musicians of the Pop Academy and the economy and society in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
