Popakademie students live on stage at the Sunday Beats 2022

29. April 2022

For the fourth year in a row, students of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg will be playing live on stage at Herzogenriedpark Mannheim. As part of the Sunday Beats 2022 concert series, five Popakademie bands will perform on various Sundays from 3 p.m. onwards in the concert shell in Herzogenriedpark.

Gabriel Zanetti[/LK_N] will kick things off on 22 May 2022 at [LK_N https://gabrielzanetti.com/]. He is studying Popular Music M.A. at the Popakademie. His band consists of Paul-Aaron Wolf (drums), Chris Trumpf (synth bass, backing tracks), both of whom are also studying Popular Music M.A., and the keyboardist and Pop Music Design student Nils Eberhard. Gabriel Zanetti's songs are calm to groovy, atmospheric but always charismatic and authentic with catchy tune factor.

The concert series will continue with the band Vido on 26 June 2022. The members Lisa Biggel (vocals), Hannah Wiese (bass), Lars Quincke (keys) and Felix Burtscher (drums) study Popular Music M.A. and Pop Music Design B.A. at the Popakademie. The music of the band Vido is quadrilingual, polyphonic and ranges from spherical, dreamy indie sounds to soft jazzy vibes and rousing grooves. In their songs, Vido tell stories, experiment with sounds and encourage you to think, sing or bob along.

ENGIN will play at Herzogenriedpark on 24 July 2022. Band leader Engin Devekiran (vocals, guitar) studies Pop Music Design B.A. and bassist David Knevels Popular Music M.A. ENGIN makes profound and danceable singer-songwriter music, brute and fragile. A conglomerate of Turkish psych-rock sounds, blues, indie and chanson elements.

Artist and Master's graduate Mareike Berg will be at Sunday Beats with her project Ultramaryn on 28 August 2022. Ultramaryn's penchant for crisp grooves, unconventional harmonies, sawing synthesizers and catchy melodies, she combines with concise and sometimes deliberately striking poetry. She finds her sound between synth-pop and alternative. Live, she now plays in a compact duo formation with Karlsruhe drummer Dave Büchner.

Artist Laura Diederich aka LORI provisionally closes the concert series on 18 September 2022, she too is a student of the Popular Music M.A. programme at the Popakademie. LORI is a pop artist who stands for autobiographical lyrics and international beats à la Dua Lipa. Her agenda includes topics such as personal development, empowerment, optimism and feminism.

Admission to the concerts is free in each case, park admission to Herzogenriedpark is €3.50.

Sunday Beats is a joint concert series of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and Stadtpark Mannheim GmbH and has been in existence since 2019. The concert series was initiated by the Popakademie's own artist agency KLINKT, which has been helping solo musicians, bands and producers from the Popakademie to live events or projects in the field of music marketing since 2007. The artist and exploitation agency is thus an interface between the musicians of the Popakademie and the economy and society in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region.
