Rocking the stage: Students at Pop macht Schule

Popakademie comes to six schools in the metropolitan area

05. February 2019

Six schools in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region will receive pop music on their curriculum for two days from the end of February to mid-March 2019. Students and lecturers of the World Music Program of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg are also part of the 14th edition of "Pop macht Schule". The main sponsor of the educational project is BASF SE.

Founding bands, learning to play instruments and writing songs - for two whole days during the coaching period from 25 February to 22 March 2019, pop music will once again be on the curriculum of six selected schools in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. While many pupils hold an instrument in their hands for the first time in the morning at the beginning of school, they are already on stage at noon and present songs with partly self-written lyrics to their classmates and teachers. Existing school bands and music clubs receive tips and tricks from experienced musicians to give their rehearsed songs the final touch.

Intensive coaching in small groups makes this quick success possible. The creative approach to pop music playfully promotes the social competence of the young people. At the final concert of the participating schools on May 24, 2019, all bands will perform in front of a large audience on stage at the Popakademie in Mannheim.

The six participating schools of "Pop macht Schule" 2019:
  • 02/26 -02/27 Kraichgau School Mulhouse
  • 28.02. - 01.03. Biedensandschule Lampertheim

"Pop macht Schule" is carried out in the Popakademie courses of study Pop Music Design and World Music. After being awarded the Landeslehrpreis Baden-Württemberg in 2009, the project was named a "Ort im Land der Ideen" in 2010. "Pop macht Schule" is supported by BASF SE, which launched the project together with the Popakademie in 2005 under the name "School of Rock".
