Popakademie alumni Maximilian Kolb promoted to EVP Repertoire & Marketing

06. October 2021

BMG has promoted Maximilian Kolb, previously Managing Director GSA, to EVP Repertoire & Marketing Continental Europe. In his new role, Kolb will assume responsibility for BMG's continental European business in addition to its publishing and label business in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

From 2006 to 2010, Kolb studied music business with a focus on "community management" at the Pop Academy. While still a student, he began his career at Sony ATV, now Sony Music Publishing, before moving to BMG as A&R Manager in 2012. There, Kolb was appointed Director "A&R Recorded Music, GSA" in 2017 and in this role was responsible for both the label business and digital distribution. This was followed by a promotion to "Managing Director, GSA" in 2019. Under his leadership, BMG has steadily outperformed the German market and significantly expanded its recorded music and publishing business with artists such as Kontra K, Max Giesinger and KitschKrieg, as well as publishing clients such as Peter Maffay and AnnenMayKantereit.

"There could hardly be a better time to take on this new task. Streaming is increasingly opening the market to local repertoire, which not only increases national successes, but also creates new cross-border opportunities. We want to be a respectful and reliable home for all kinds of music in Europe. In addition to signing new artist:s and songwriters:s, we also want to continue to focus on rights acquisition," Kolb says.

On the label side, BMG has signed multi-platinum artists in continental Europe such as Lenny Kravitz, the No Angels, Max Giesinger, Nakhane, Paolo Conte, Takida, Alice Wonder, Belako and Nena Daconte. Among the publishing clients are renowned songwriters Alice Merton, Robin Schulz, the Scorpions, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, BigFlo & Oli and Jeanne Added, Jim Ouma and Pinguini Tattici Nucleari.
