Popakademie alumni new management at Electrola

18. September 2024

The Universal Music label Electrola is moving from Munich to Berlin at the end of 2024. At the same time, longtime manager Jörg Hellwig is also retiring. Popakademie alumni Dirk Geibel and Leonard Prasuhn will take over the joint management.

Since June 1, 2024, Dirk Geibel and Leonard Prasuhn have been the new top management of Electrola and Better Now Records. Geibel has assumed the title of Vice President Marketing, while Prasuhn acts as Vice President A&R. Until the end of the year, the two will continue to report to the current Managing Director Jörg Hellwig; from 2025, they will report directly to Tom Bohne, President Music Domestic at Universal Music.

In 2019, Geibel and Prasuhn founded the label Better Now Records as a subsidiary and pop arm of Electrola. One of their goals was to expand the Munich label's musical offering. Among others, Malik Harris, Alexander Eden, Mike Singer and Cosby are under contract with Better Now Records.

Popakademie alumnus Dirk Geibel (Music Business B.A.) started at Electrola ten years ago as Head of Marketing and rose to become Senior Director Marketing and General Manager of Airforce1 Records. During this time, he looked after artists such as Santiano, Maite Kelly and Alvaro Soler. Geibel started his career at Starwatch Entertainment. Here he accompanied the career of Udo Lindenberg, Lena's ESC victory and the brand launch of the children's brand Giraffenaffen. Geibel is also a lecturer on the Music Business program at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, where he teaches marketing.

Leonard Prasuhn, a graduate of the Music Business B.A. program at the Popakademie, joined Electrola eight years ago as Junior A&R and rose to General Manager of Better Now Records and Senior Director A&R over the years. He played an important role in the diversification of the repertoire and achieved success with artists
such as Julian Sommer, Nemo, Roy Bianco & Die Abbrunzati Boys, twenty4tim and Howard Carpendale. Prasuhn teaches Artist Development and A&R Management as a lecturer in the Music Business program at the Popakademie.

We congratulate both of them on this success and are delighted that the connection to the Popakademie will continue through their lecturing activities.
