„Musikwirtschaft im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung“

30. July 2021

Prof. Hubert Wandjo, Business Director and Managing Director Popakademie Baden-Württemberg and Prof. Dr. Alexander Endreß, Program Director Music Business B.A., are jointly publishing the book "Musikwirtschaft im Zeitalter der Digitalisierung" (Music Business in the Age of Digitalization) with Nomos Verlag.

On the one hand, the textbook takes a retrospective look at the causes of change in the music industry over the past 20 years; on the other hand, it explains various fields of music industry practice. This provides a multifaceted insight into the current practice of the (digital) music business. The music business is understood as a complex system based on the division of labor, in which artist development, content production, content marketing and rights management go hand in hand. The practice-oriented explanations are supplemented by a description of the normative and cultural framework conditions to which the music production, music distribution and music reception systems are subject. A focus is placed on digital action competencies and industry structures.

The articles are written by music industry experts from academia and practice. Among them are other Popakademie professors such as Prof. Dr. Nina Schneider, head of the Music and Creative Industries M.A. program, on the economic significance of the creative industries. Prof. Dr. David-Emil Wickström, program director Pop Music Design B.A. and World Music B.A., on music in circulation. Prof. Dr. Heiko Wandler, Director of the Popular Music M.A. program, on the impact of digital music technology on the production aesthetics of popular music. The reference book also includes contributions from lecturers at the Popakademie, such as Tim Renner on the history of the music business, Prof. Dr. Hanno Fierdag and Prof. Asterix Westphal on the changing nature of contract content in the music business, and Prof. Frank Fenslau on the renaissance of the track business.

Prof. Hubert Wandjo and Prof. Dr. Alexander Endreß teach at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in the Department of Music and Creative Industries, are responsible for the Music Business degree program, and in 2007 implemented the field of Digital Innovation Management as one of the first specifically digital educational focuses in the music industry.
