Music business students develop concept for DIY Festival

Warm summer nights, camping, hippie feeling and lots of music. Music lovers usually spend the summer at festivals - including Northern Europe's biggest festival, the Roskilde Festival. So that the fans of the Danish festival don't have to miss out on the special Roskilde feeling despite the cancellation due to Corona, the four music business students Anna Hartkopf, Carolin Walther, Jeannine Grießer and Annika Schnaufer have developed the Roskilde DIY concept.The Roskilde Festival lives above all from its sustainability and charity concept, it is organized by around 30.000 volunteers every year, and artists such as Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar and Florence and the Machine donate their fees to the good cause. In order to bring this special mix of music, art and community into their own four walls, the "festival visitors" can get ready for the festival experience at home through various activities. On the agenda are, for example, ideas for the perfect home festival outfit, live sessions and podcasts with artists from the Rising Stage, a body-mind exercise or recipes for cooking that special orange food. If you want to participate, you can share your Festival-At-Home-Vibes under the hashtag #myroskildediy.The concept was developed by Anna, Carolin, Jeannine and Annika as part of the Project Factory of their music business studies. In cooperation with their project managers Jan Clausen and Janika Reuter from the Hamburg PR agency Factory92, the students first defined the target group as well as the unique selling proposition of the festival and then set to work on the concept. They then went in search of influencers and multipliers to promote their idea of a DIY festival.The project workshop is an integral part of the practice-oriented bachelor's programme in music business. Through the project work the students can make important contacts and gain practical insights into the music business. In addition, students learn key skills for their future working life, such as teamwork, communication tactics or project management skills. In the summer semester of 2020, a total of ten projects took place within the Music Business programme, including projects with Universal Music, Warner Music, DASDING and the YouTube Space in Berlin.
