Institute for Music

and Creative Industries Practice

Studenten Workshop-Situation

The Institute for Music and Creative Industries Practice forms the interface to professional practice within the educational framework of the Department of Music and Creative Industries. On the one hand, one finds within the Institute for Music and Creative Industries Practice the essential practical courses for the majors Music Business B.A. and Music and Creative Industries M.A. On the other hand, one also finds specific care for the networking of companies and institutions in the music and creative industries.

The Institute of Music and Creative Industries Practice comprises the following areas of competence or teaching:

Project Factory
The Popakademie sets with the Project Factory clear accents as a project- and practice-oriented training centre for budding junior executives and future entrepreneurs. In addition to the "normal" lectures, this is about students’ practice-oriented independent work on a real, specified goal. Real projects for clients from the music and creative industries or internal Popakademie contracts are planned and implemented with the support of a project manager.

The students benefit from the project work on several levels:
  • Course content from the lectures will be solidified when put into practice through immediate implementation
  • By working in a team and dealing with the project processes, the students gain central key qualifications that are crucial for a successful career in today's job market: for example team skills, communication skills, flexibility, independence, network-based thinking, rhetoric, resilience.
  • Students come into direct contact with companies, get to know their culture and employees and thus lay an important foundation for their individual professional network and future employment.
Internship Office
The Institute of Music and Creative Industries Practice is responsible for all matters concerning the compulsory internships during one’s studies. In addition, it supports the students of the Department of Music and Creative Industries within the scope of their opportunities for internship acquisition. It also serves as a point of contact for companies looking for interns.
Alumni Network
The alumni network is an important basis for the relations of the Popakademie in economic practice. Our graduates work as employees of large and small companies in the music and creative industries or run their own companies. Collaborations at various levels result from relationships with our graduates. Not only does the Institute of Music and Creative Industries Practices communicate mostly with our alumni, it also regularly compiles statistics on their careers and achievements.
Career Counselling
For questions about their individual career planning, the Institute for Music and Creative Industries Practice is available to students of the Department of Music and Creative Industries and strives to offer individual assistance.
Job Placement
The Institute for Music and Creative Industries Practice also forms an important bridge between companies and students in the context of job placement and has established itself as the point of contact especially for entry-level jobs in the music business. Due to the small number of students each year and the close cooperation with them, especially in the context of the project workshop, we are able to make very individual recommendations for job appointments.
Industry Network
The Popakademie's well-functioning network of business enterprises, cultural and public institutions of the music and creative industries is an essential factor for the successful academic education of the Music and Creative Industries Department and other projects that the Popakademie implements beyond its degree programmes.
