Kenan Tülek

Bağlama, transcultural music education

Kenan Tülek began to learn the Saz on his own at a young age. By teaching in different cultural centers he got a deeper insight into the traditional Anatolian folk music. From the very beginning, he was interested in the different playing techniques, especially the innovative playing technique Şelpe, which he acquired autodidactically. His technical skills were refined by the master Erdal Erzincan, with whom he attended numerous courses. He also researched the traditional Alevi music of Anatolia on site, especially playing and singing techniques.

In 2010 he began studying at Codarts Rotterdam University for Arts. From 2014 to 2015 he studied one semester at the famous Istanbul Teknik Üniversitesi (ITÜ). In 2015 Kenan Tülek received his Bachelor of Music with the topic "Adaptation at Şelpe Technik".

Kenan Tülek gives regular workshops at the Oriental Music Academy Mannheim (OMM). Since 2015 he also teaches in the Global Music course at the Popakademie. In 2017 he received his Master of Music with the topic "Legato technique at Bağlama". In 2018 he published his first book "Bağlama spielen, Die Şelpe-Technik" (Schott Verlag) and founded his music school "Bağlama Atelier Mannheim". In 2019 his second book "Bağlama spielen, Die Tezene-Technik" will be published by Schott Verlag.
