Hip hop originated at parties, DJs and dancers inspired each other. How do dancers react to the beats and the characteristic bounce? We get to know the typical hip hop movement and a few classic hip hop figures and bring everything to the point in a choreo.

Dorit Rode has been a hip hop dancer and trainer for 30 years. She has danced and choreographed for the Heidelberg band De-Phazz, among others, and is the author of the book “Breaking. Popping. Locking. Dances of Hip Hop Culture”. In the 1990s, she was able to experience the “Golden Age of Hip Hop” with its extremely danceable music live in the USA and still carries this spirit into her courses and workshops today.
  • Workshop “It's more than just rap - hip hop in youth work” with Marie Jäger and Anna Groß

Which facets of hip-hop culture are suitable for imparting knowledge and promoting skills? How can social issues, attitudes and challenges be made visible and discussed through hip hop? What practical skills can be promoted through this creative form of expression? In this workshop, we will show you how hip hop can be used in different educational contexts and introduce you to specific methods.

Marie Jäger has been working for the association Cultures Interactive e.V. at the interface of subcultures and political education since 2011. She focuses on how political issues are negotiated in subcultures and the approaches and methods for youth cultural work that follow on from this. She occasionally publishes articles on this topic in anthologies. In 2023, together with Anna Groß, she published the anthology “It's more than just rap - HipHop in der Jugendarbeit”.
