We are very happy to welcome you in our house.

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is a barrier-free building. The building has barrier-free access, the bus stop in front of the building is also barrier-free and therefore easy to reach by public transport. The Popakademie has a handicapped parking space, a handicapped accessible WC with a pull cord and emergency call switch, the doors are suitable for wheelchair users according to DIN18040 and can be operated by pushbuttons and are equipped with finger protection. A lift with Braille lettering and a stretcher are available in case of failure. In the house there are generous movement areas with turning possibilities and there are no thresholds. A pictorial description with common pictograms ensures easy orientation in the house. Ramps and fall protection are available for the stages. Additional ergonomic barriers for staff, students and visitors are available by appointment.

Band pool acts at Nachtwandel

On the weekend of October 24th/25th Nachtwandel (Night Walk) will take place in Mannheim from 7 p.m. to midnight. Live music will be played throughout the night at various locations, allowing diverse acts with different styles and cultural backgrounds to showcase their talents.

World Drum Festival: Registration begins

On Saturday, November 8th 2025, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg, in cooperation with the Cultural Office of the City of Mannheim and the European drum and percussion association “Percussion Creativ,” will host the eleventh World Drum Festival. The World Drum Festival is curated by Anika Nilles. Registration for the World Drum Festival 2025 is now open.

Popakademie lecturer Anika Nilles plays drums for Rush

Mannheim-based drummer and Popakademie lecturer Anika Nilles will be touring with legendary Canadian rock band Rush in 2026. The band made a surprise announcement on October 6 that they were reuniting—more than ten years after their last concert.

Popakademie Talks
In the “Popakademie Talks” series, guests from the music and culture sector discuss various current topics. In the 2025/26 winter semester, three talks will be held on the topic of “Populism and Extremism.”

On Tuesday, October 21, 2025, the Popakademie Talks will kick off at 7 p.m. with Felix Birsner from the band WILLMAN: “Gender roles? Nope! A flawless resume? Nope! A perfect morning routine? Nope!” The Freiburg duo WILLMAN prefers to say “yes” to themselves, even at the risk of being uncool. On Tuesday, Felix Birsner will shed light on his personal assessment and experiences with the band WILLMAN. He will also discuss how the band has taken a critical stance on social issues.

Participation in the talk is free of charge.

Live & Laut concerts @ Nachtwandel
This year the Nachtwandel invites you to art, music and culture in Mannheim's Jungbusch harbour district.

The Bandpool will also open its doors on October 24th and 25th and will present current Bandpool bands and a few specials. That means this weekend there will be good music on two evenings in the Popakademie!
