We are very happy to welcome you in our house.

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is a barrier-free building. The building has barrier-free access, the bus stop in front of the building is also barrier-free and therefore easy to reach by public transport. The Popakademie has a handicapped parking space, a handicapped accessible WC with a pull cord and emergency call switch, the doors are suitable for wheelchair users according to DIN18040 and can be operated by pushbuttons and are equipped with finger protection. A lift with Braille lettering and a stretcher are available in case of failure. In the house there are generous movement areas with turning possibilities and there are no thresholds. A pictorial description with common pictograms ensures easy orientation in the house. Ramps and fall protection are available for the stages. Additional ergonomic barriers for staff, students and visitors are available by appointment.

The Popakademie Baden-Württemberg is an higher education institution and competence centre for the music and creative industries and their pop cultural scenes. POPLÄND Award goes to NIKRA, franz.K, and Jules Kalmbacher

For the first time, the state of Baden-Württemberg is awarding a prize for pop culture. It goes to a band from Mannheim, a cultural center in Reutlingen, and a music producer born in Odenwald who has topped the German charts more than ten times.

Popakademie Talks in the winter semester 2025/2026

In the winter semester of 2025/2026, the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg will once again host the Popakademie Talks series. Guests from the music and culture sector will present the topic of “Populism and Extremism” with WILLMAN, Valerie Schönian, and Dr. Anna Schwenck.

Band pool acts at Nachtwandel

On the weekend of October 24th/25th Nachtwandel (Night Walk) will take place in Mannheim from 7 p.m. to midnight. Live music will be played throughout the night at various locations, allowing diverse acts with different styles and cultural backgrounds to showcase their talents.

Popakademie Talks

In the “Popakademie Talks” series, guests from the music and culture sector discuss various current topics. In the 2025/26 winter semester, three talks will be held on the topic of “Populism and Extremism.”

On Tuesday, November 11, journalist and author Valerie Schönian will be a guest at Popakademie Talks, where she will report on populism and radicalism in eastern Germany. She was born in 1990 in Gardelegen, Saxony-Anhalt, and grew up in Magdeburg. Schönian studied German philology and political science in Berlin and trained at the German School of Journalism in Munich. She has been awarded the Marlies Hesse Young Talent Prize, among others, and was nominated for the Theodor Wolff Prize and the Reporter Prize. Her books “Halleluja” and “Ostbewusstsein” were published by Piper Verlag. Valerie Schönian has been working for DIE ZEIT since 2017, initially as an editor in the Leipzig office and, since 2019, as an author.

Participation in the talk is free of charge.

POPLÄND Award
In cooperation with the Popakademie, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts is presenting the POPLÄND Award for the first time. Three categories (live act, live music venue, producing) will each receive €10,000 in prize money. Further information to follow.
