SONGS winners receive support from BANDSUPPORT

28. February 2022

The young artists Enya and Piya are part of the tenth generation of the support program "Bandsupport Mannheim", which has been promoting young talents for ten years now and accompanying them a bit on their musical way.

Both artists are winners of the songwriting competition "SONGS". This is initiated annually by the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in cooperation with the Sparda-Bank Baden-Württemberg. The current application phase runs until March 18, 2022 That's how long songs can still be submitted via the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg homepage. The best songs will be selected by a jury of experts and presented live on May 06, 2022 at the SpardaBank Eventcenter.

Here Piya in 2020 and Enya in 2021 were able to convince the jury of themselves and take home the victory. Now they are part of the support program "Bandsupport Mannheim", which is launched annually by NEXT MANNHEIM and the municipal youth promotion. The project leaders are Pop Academy alumni Beril Yilmam-Kohl (representative for music and pop culture at NEXT MANNHEIM) and Eva Schulze-Brüggemann (Mannheim Youth Development).

Over the course of a year, professional coaches will impart their in-depth knowledge of the industry as such and the profession as musicians to the bands and artists. The goal of "Bandsupport Mannheim" is to create ideal conditions for the aspiring newcomers and to develop highly professional, customized structures for their band life.

For this purpose, the young musicians receive weekly band coaching from David Becker, Rainer Döhring, Ziggy Has Ardeur and Irene Claussen Gomez. In the course of the coaching year, the bands are to professionalize themselves as much as possible in order to be able to gain a foothold in the music industry in the best case later on. The four ambitious coaches are all not only alumni of the Mannheim Pop Academy, but also experienced musicians themselves who have been working in the industry for many years.
