Application start for "Pop macht Schule"

06. November 2019

Until the 20th of December 2019, school classes from the Rhein-Neckar Metropolitan Region can apply for "Pop macht Schule". For two days, lecturers and students of the Popakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg visit selected schools and teach in exciting workshops on how to sing, write and play instruments. Musical knowledge is not required.

In February and March 2020 the school tour of the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg starts again. The project introduces pupils from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region to the subject of pop music at an early age. In addition to drums, electric guitar, electric bass and keyboard, instruments from world music can be tried out: Bağlamas, Ouds, Kanuns and Darbukas. Of course there will be lyrics and songs will be produced.

Applications can be submitted by middle schools, comprehensive schools, community schools and special education establishments, special needs schools and vocational schools from the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. The students form bands, write lyrics and develop their own songs. Many of the participants in these workshops are holding an instrument in their hands for the first time. There are no costs for the schools.

The aim of the project, which was initiated together with BASF SE, is to sharpen young people's senses at an early age for a creative approach to pop music. Making music together also promotes the social competence of the young people. At the big final concert on 8 June 2020 in the Popakademie with all the participating schools, the pupils will then experience what it feels like to sniff stage air in front of a large audience.

The project was awarded the Landeslehrpreis Baden-Württemberg in 2009. In 2010, the School of Rock was awarded as a place in the "Land der Ideen". The main sponsor BASF SE received the AKS Award of the Arbeitskreis für Kultursponsoring for its support. Due to its integrative effect, the project was included in the Integration Plan of the Federal Government.

Further partners are the cities of Heidelberg, Ludwigshafen and Mannheim.
