Popakademie Talks on the war in Ukraine

On Tuesday 5 April 2022 at 7 pm, the first Popakademie Talk of the summer semester will focus on the war in Ukraine. Dr. Arve Hansen will be the guest and Prof. Dr. David-Emil Wickström will be the moderator.
The discussion between Dr. Arve Hansen and Prof. Dr. David-Emil Wickström deals with the current war in Ukraine, the background and what role music plays in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. They will look at the historical background and the situation after 2014, as well as the current situation.Dr. Arve Hansen works for the Norwegian Helsinki Committee, an NGO that promotes human rights. He has studied Russian, Ukrainian and Eastern European regional studies in Minsk, Kiev and Tromsø. Dr Arve Hansen has researched urbanism, mass protests and opposition culture in Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, including the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. He recently visited Ukraine for the Norwegian Helsinki Committee to document human rights violations during the war.Prof. Dr. David-Emil Wickström is the director of studies for the Pop Music Design B.A. and World Music B.A. programmes. Wickström studied musicology, ethnomusicology and Scandinavian studies. He did his PhD on post-Soviet music in Denmark and is co-author, together with Dr. Arve Hansen, of the book "A War of Songs - Popular Music and Recent Russia-Ukraine Relations", published in 2019."The Popakademie Talks on 05 April 2022 at 7pm will take place online and is in English, there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
